What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact, full-body movement system that builds strength, control, and body awareness. Developed by Joseph Pilates, the method is designed to strengthen both body and mind. By blending classical and contemporary approaches, each session is tailored to the individual, creating a safe, adaptable practice that can support you throughout a lifetime.

Who is Pilates For?

Pilates is an accessible form of exercise for people of all ages and abilities. No prior experience required.

What to Expect from a Session at Daisy Pilates

Your first private session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We'll begin with a conversation about your goals, health history, lifestyle, and any questions you may have. From there, Daisy will guide you through a postural and movement assessment to better understand how your body moves.

You'll be introduced to the Pilates method through a selection of foundational mat exercises, thoughtful hands-on guidance, and breath-centered movement. This first session allows Daisy to identify your natural movement patterns, areas of tension, and existing strengths. Together, you'll develop an individualized plan that supports your goals while building strength, body awareness, balance, and a greater sense of ease in movement. Throughout the process, the aim is to cultivate a practice that encourages embodied movement and supports a more regulated nervous system.

What to Wear?

Please wear clothing you feel comfortable moving in. Bare feet or socks are both fine.

Teaching Philosophy

Pilates is a language like no other. My role is to help you become fluent in it.

We aren't often encouraged to be fully present in our own bodies. Choosing to practice Pilates is an opportunity to slow down, explore movement, and feel supported in the process. My goal is to create a space where students feel safe to be curious, ask questions, and develop a deeper connection to their bodies. Through that process, strength, confidence, and body awareness naturally grow.

Pilates is an exploration. It invites us to experiment, make mistakes, and discover new possibilities without judgment. Every body is different, and every student's practice will look different. Rather than striving for a particular shape or image, I encourage students to pay attention to what they feel from the inside out.

While this is meaningful work, it should also be playful, creative, and, above all else, enjoyable.

As a teacher, my role is to give students the tools they need to build a sustainable practice, one that supports them throughout the many seasons of life and that they can carry with them wherever they go.

Movement Education

I have been practicing Pilates since 2008 and teaching since 2014. I received my Comprehensive Pilates Certification from the Kelly Kane School of Core Integration in New York City. My training emphasized working with special populations, including pre- and postnatal clients and those with spinal conditions, scoliosis, osteoporosis, joint replacements, orthopedic injuries, shoulder dysfunction, pelvic floor concerns, and other movement-related conditions.

A lifelong student, I continue to deepen my understanding of movement through hundreds of hours of continuing education in Pilates and related disciplines. My studies have included Gyrotonic®, Gyrokinesis®, the Alexander Technique, biofeedback, and breathwork, along with workshops and mentorships with Deborah Lessen, Blossom Crawford, physical therapist Dr. Marshall Hagins, Peggy Wallin-Hart, and many other respected teachers in the Pilates and movement communities.

This ongoing education continues to shape my teaching, allowing me to meet each student with curiosity and an individualized approach while creating a space where they feel supported to explore, ask questions, and build confidence in their own body.

Testimonials

“A couple of sentences cannot adequately describe the depth and breadth of Daisy's Pilates knowledge nor the imaginative solutions she presents to anyone's physical needs. I have personally witnessed how quickly she observes what a person needs to work on and her resourcefulness to achieve a desired result. She is patient, compassionate and kind, tempered with a delightful humor and every session is anticipated.” — Margaret

“I first decided to try Pilates out of curiosity but I was instantly hooked. I love the core strength I'm attaining. I genuinely look forward to my private one hour sessions 2-3 times a week with Daisy. She plans each session in advance but is flexible, always asking how I'm feeling, if I'm having any physical issues, and if there's anything specific I'd like to work on? It feels like a partnership.” — Barry

“I have not met any Pilates instructor with the breadth of knowledge, awareness, and instructional flexibility that Daisy has. I have been doing Pilates two or three days a week for 15 years, and Daisy has been my instructor for the last three. Daisy always has a session plan but asks if there's something specific I'd like to work on. She assesses my body during the warm-up and modifies her plan based on her incredibly accurate observations.” — Craig

“I'm a 70-year-old guy, and while every session includes a warm-up, stretching, upper- and lower-body work, and a strong finish, no two sessions are ever the same. Daisy wants me to get a serious workout, but never at the cost of hurting myself. Proper alignment, technique, and breathing are a constant. I leave every session feeling better than when I arrived—and really glad I got up early to work out with her.” — CL

“Daisy has a deep and broad understanding of movement. She is able to see how an incorrect posture and use of the muscles can contribute to many problems with joints and movement. By focusing on correct balance of muscles and tension release, muscles can be strengthened and clients can learn to use their bodies for optimal efficiency and minimal discomfort.” — Karen

“There are endless adaptations of Pilates. Daisy has curated a full range of movements specific to my need for balancing muscle strength and flexibility. Working with Daisy has enhanced my health and overall fitness. Not to mention, she has a delightful personality!” — Antonia

“I could not ask for a better instructor to introduce me to Pilates! Daisy has been incredibly kind and I love how she explains what we are doing and how it affects our body. I have loved every session we have done so far and I can't wait to take some more!” — Piper
